Mission

We are focused on ensuring the UK government rises to the significant environmental leadership challenges of our age and, in doing so, reaps the social and economic benefits that come from an effective UK response to the climate and nature crises.

We are:

  1. Securing the political mandate for ambitious action
  2. Advocating decisive action in the new parliament’s first year
  3. Shaping the context for transformative environmental policy
  4. Preparing Green Alliance for the future

Our history

Green Alliance was launched in 1979 with the aim ‘to ensure that the political priorities of the United Kingdom are determined within an ecological perspective’.

Our name originally referred to the large group of eminent individuals from a wide range of professional spheres who were the founding members.

How we work

Our projects involve in depth research and expert advocacy under subject themes, often in partnership with other organisations and interests. Our high profile and specialist events help to debate and shape the agenda, and engage senior decision makers in dialogue on important environmental issues.

We host the blog Inside Track and the Green Alliance podcast to provide new insights and spark debate on environmental policy and politics.
