Overview

Acting now on climate resilience is essential as extreme weather poses a threat not only to our health and productivity but to the economy and infrastructure across the country. Despite the urgency of the need for action, the UK’s current state of readiness for climate change has been labelled “inadequate” by the Climate Change Committee. More proactive preparation is needed to protect communities as well as reduce costs in the future.

Brought together by Green Alliance’s Adaptation Task Force, this parliamentary reception focused on climate adaptation and resilience, and was sponsored by Edward Morello MP. The event welcomed parliamentarians, businesses and civil society to recognise the work already being undertaken across the UK and to support further ambitious action. The current task force members are UK Power Networks, OVO, SSE, Aviva, Wessex Water, National Trust, IEMA and Zurich.

The event also launched our new report, Adapt to thrive, detailing key interventions for the government to take in the coming years ahead of a new National Adaptation Programme in 2028. This piece of research represented the immediate priorities for action in adaptation.
