Overview

Join Green Alliance and Changing Markets Foundation for this upcoming online event.

In November, Prime Minister Andy Burnham will travel to Turkey for the COP31 climate conference. This presents a major opportunity for the UK government to address the need to cut emissions of methane, one of the most potent greenhouse gases.

COP31 marks the halfway point for the Global Methane Pledge, launched at COP26 in Glasgow in 2021 with the aim of cutting methane emissions worldwide by 30 per cent by 2030. It is also a year since the UK government published its Methane Action Plan.

At a landmark moment for UK methane leadership, join Green Alliance and Changing Markets Foundation for a webinar unpacking what the UK’s story will be on methane at COP31, our international responsibility and how we are really doing on efforts to cut methane emissions.

Green Alliance will launch its Methane Policy Tracker at this event, revealing the UK’s progress in a global context, setting the backdrop for our expert commentators to explore recent progress on methane action, the value of going further, and COP31’s potential to motivate greater global momentum towards reaching this important goal.

Changing Markets Foundation will also present findings from a new investigation into the misinformation holding back methane action, including the online backlash against Bovaer, a feed additive designed to reduce methane emissions from cattle. They will also unveil new data mapping livestock methane emissions across the UK and EU, revealing which farming systems are responsible for the greatest emissions and where action is most urgently needed.

There will be plenty of time for an audience Q&A.
