Looking forward: what will 2026 mean for UK environmental policy and politics?
Summary
At this webinar we kicked off the new year by examining the major developments that are set to shape environmental policy in 2026.
During the event, we explored the potential political implications of the May elections, as well as the expectations and pressures surrounding the government’s seventh carbon budget decision, due in June, which will set the UK’s climate action trajectory into the late 2030s and early 2040s.
We also delved into what the Land Use Framework and Farming Roadmap could mean for nature, food systems and communities; the government’s ambitions on energy, including the forthcoming Energy Independence Bill; and how the new Circular Economy Growth Plan might shift the conversation on waste, resources and consumption.
Our panel of experts discussed all this and more, with plenty of time for audience Q&A.
