About

Our Positive Action Trainee Scheme, launched in 2024, aims to kickstart careers in the environmental sector and provide opportunities to underrepresented groups. This year, we are offering roles in our policy, politics and fundraising teams for 9 months starting on 6 January 2026.

Applications close on 6 October 2025.

This scheme is run in collaboration with Creative Access and applications must be made via the Creative Access platform. We cannot accept direct applications for these roles.

Please note, applications were invited from those underrepresented in the environmental and think tank sectors. This includes, but is not limited to, Black, Asian and ethnically diverse candidates and individuals from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.

Working at Green Alliance has been an exciting way to apply my knowledge of economics and the environment into practice. I've contributed to work across different policy topics like nature-economy and industrial decarbonisation, while learning how a think tank influences positive change. The team has been friendly and supportive throughout the traineeship, and I feel like I have learnt so much and grown confident working in a political environment.

Partha Mulay, policy trainee

Starting my career at Green Alliance has been an incredibly valuable experience. I’ve explored a wide range of work, helping me to identify the skills I want to develop and the areas I’m passionate about. From meeting a Secretary of State to learning about legislation and engaging with people across the sector, this role has given me insights I couldn’t have gained elsewhere. The team’s expertise and support have made all the difference, and I'm grateful for how much I've learned here.

Sara Bellar, politics trainee

Starting my career at Green Alliance has been a great introduction to the environmental sector. No two days have felt the same, helping me to develop practical skills, from compiling funder reports to understanding internal operations in finance and data. I've also observed how UK environmental policy is shaped and had the chance to engage professionally with stakeholders, across business, NGOs and government. These experiences have added real value to my career and helped clarify the kind of work I’d like to pursue next.
