Overview
The All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Environment (APPG) is a cross-party group of MPs and peers that works to boost ambition and promote informed debate on climate, nature and resource use in Westminster. Parliamentarians are supported by associate members from businesses, charities and trade bodies. Since September 2020, Green Alliance has been the secretariat for the APPG.
The Environment APPG has successfully campaigned for the UK’s exit from the harmful Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), the banning of disposable vapes, and the extension of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
We run high-profile events in Parliament, with recent speakers including Nature Minister Mary Creagh MP, Dame Glenys Stacey, the Chair of the Office for Environmental Protection, and Energy Minister Andrew Bowie.
We delivered a Climate and Nature Leadership Programme in the new parliament for new MPs, peers and their staff. Over the course of this programme, we engaged with over 50 parliamentarians and staff from across all the major parties, holding events thirteen on the climate and nature crises. APPG events included hosting meetings with Emma Pinchbeck, CEO of the Climate Change Committee, and Ruth Davis, the government’s newly appointed nature envoy.

A six step plan to make better use of resources
As the government develops England’s first Circular Economy Strategy, the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Environment – chaired by Labour’s Andrew Pakes MP – has launched a six-step plan to make better use of resources.
Ten point plan for climate and nature
The All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment’s ten point plan for climate and nature provides government with a menu of policy options which would help to fulfil the UK’s environmental ambition.
The plan calls for a net zero devolution deal, ambitious nature targets, improvements to home efficiency and more. With backing from metro mayors, senior parliamentarians, business and environmental leaders, the plan demonstrates the widespread support that exists across the country for green policies.
