All Party Parliamentary Group for the Environment

Our work as secretariat

Overview

The All Party Parliamentary Group for the Environment (APPG) is a cross-party group of MPs, Peers and external members that exists to raise awareness of environmental issues and act as a platform for information and dialogue on environmental policy. The Chair of the group is Trudy Harrison MP.

In September 2020, Green Alliance became the APPG secretariat, holding a relaunch event with guest speaker Mark Carney, the former Bank of England governor and UN special envoy on climate action and finance.

Since then, we have set up new social channels for the group and organised a full programme of events with senior parliamentary speakers and experts, including COP26 President Alok Shamra, Chair of the EFRA select committee Robert Goodwell, NFU chair Minette Batters and Professor Partha Dasgupta. The Environment APPG also held an official event in the green zone at COP26.

We have also been part of recent successful campaigns leading to the banning of disposable vapes, the UK’s exit from the harmful Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and extending the Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

We also hold regular events which fit into three broad themes: climate and energy, waste and resources and the natural environment.

See the APPG website for the latest information

As the secretariat for the Environment APPG, Green Alliance impresses with its wealth of experience and expertise across politics and the environmental sector.

Ten point plan for climate and nature

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Environment’s ten point plan for climate and nature provides government with a menu of policy options which would help to fulfil the UK’s environmental ambition.

The plan calls for a net zero devolution deal, ambitious nature targets, improvements to home efficiency and more. With backing from metro mayors, senior parliamentarians, business and environmental leaders, the plan demonstrates the widespread support that exists across the country for green policies.
