Summary

A circular economy is a resilient economy. The war in Iran has sent material prices soaring and supply chains into renewed turmoil, and it is only the latest in a series of crises to expose the structural weaknesses of a linear economy built largely on imported resources and fossil fuel intensive production.

In this briefing, we examine the war’s impact on prices and supply chains across construction, critical raw materials and food, making the case for faster progress on the Circular Economy Growth Plan. Rather than step away from this plan, the government should  expedite it to ensure the economy is better equipped for future crises.
