Gene editing: what’s at stake for people and the planet?

The government recently launched a consultation which could lead to regulations around gene editing of crops and animals in England being relaxed.

Ministers have argued that this would bring multiple benefits to both producers and consumers, including improving the environment and increasing production of healthy and more nutritious food.

While some think these technologies have the potential to improve the environment and animal welfare, others believe the opposite is true and there is a risk it could lead to unsustainable farming and poor outcomes for animals.

At this hour long event our panel of experts discussed the arguments around gene editing and what its implications might be.
