Summary
This briefing was prepared for the introduction of the Energy Bill, also called the Energy Security Bill, in the House of Lords on 6 July 2022. It covers the following:
- An overview of the policy priorities for the Energy Bill, including: the improvement of home energy efficiency; the decoupling of gas from electricity prices; the reform of the capacity market; the digitalisation of the energy system; and the empowerment of Ofgem with a net zero statutory duty.
- An overview of other key non-legislative measures, including: the production of a Clean Power Plan; the deployment of renewable energy at speed and scale; the provision of adequate financial and non-financial support for households; and the empowerment of regional and local authorities.
