Alison Austin OBE

Alison Austin has been working as an independent sustainability consultant for over nine years, working with a range of clients to help them make sense of the environment within a business context. She spent 25 years with Sainsbury’s in a variety of senior roles, ranging from advertising and marketing to technical and food policy, but held the environmental remit for 18 years. Alison is an Independent Board member of Seafish, chairing their Remuneration Committee as well as leading Seafood 2040, a Defra sponsored industry group. She is also an Independent Board member of the Consumer Council for Water where she chairs their Audit and Risk Committee and a member of the External Advisory Board for the N8 Group of Universities.  Other recent roles include working with SGS UK Ltd and the Soil Association on governance of standards certification and accreditation. In addition, Alison is a trustee of a renewable heat co-operative providing a district heating system and an active member of a number of other community based renewable energy schemes in her local area. Alison was awarded the OBE on 2000 for services to sustainability.
