Westminster
Summary
The event has now been rescheduled to Tuesday 22 April, 2025.
The Dasgupta Review, commissioned by the UK Treasury in 2019, makes the case for changing our economic system to better account for the value provided by nature. Without nature, there is no economic growth. And yet implementation of the Review’s seminal findings has been slow.
The current government understands that our economy is not delivering real prosperity for most people and that nature is important for our national wellbeing, but we need imaginative thinking to address these urgent issues in tandem. So how do we get there?
This event will launch our new report The nature of our economy: implementing the Dasgupta Review. In the report, we take stock of Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta’s findings, and, nearly four years on, offer UK policy solutions to better account for nature in economic decision making.
We’ll hear from our distinguished expert panel on why a healthy environment is so integral to a well functioning economy and what government, business and finance must do to shift our economic system to one that values nature and begins to restore our natural assets and wealth.
Touching on a wide range of topics that may include private finance for nature, the role of public institutions like the Bank of England and National Wealth Fund, embedding long-termism in government thinking, and how measures of growth and the public finances can better reflect the importance of natural assets, we’ll discuss actionable policy solutions to take us step by step towards a healthier environment and more prosperous economy.
Speakers:
- Chair: Jo Swinson, director, Partners for a New Economy (P4NE)
- Dame Fiona Reynolds, member of the Dasgupta Review Advisory Panel
- Mya-Rose Craig, climate and environmental activist, founder and president, Black2Nature
- Shaun Spiers, executive director, Green Alliance
- Ian Townsend, deputy director, environment, Office for National Statistics
The panel discussion will be followed by the opportunity to network over drinks and canapés.
Please note: You do not need to re-register for this event, however if you are now no longer able to make it, we would be grateful if you could let us know as soon as possible to allow us to offer your space to those on the waiting list.
