Resources and waste policy in England is undergoing its first major shake up in a generation. Following the release of its new strategy, the government has published a series of consultations that promise to change how manufacturers produce packaging, and how citizens, local authorities and waste managers deal with used material.
In this report we shift the spotlight away from plastic to examine how reform can work for another widely used material: aluminium. We recommend a four step approach in order to achieve a near 100 per cent recycling rate.
