Jobs for a green recovery: levelling up through nature

Download

Date:

4 May, 2021

Summary

The UK government has emphasised the importance of reaching net zero and restoring nature. The prime minister has also pledged a ‘green recovery’ from coronavirus.

Against this backdrop, Green Alliance commissioned WPI Economics to consider the potential for new green job opportunities across Britain.

The research reveals that the areas with the greatest employment challenges, including many across the ‘Red Wall’, have significant potential for new green jobs – particularly in the creation of new urban green spaces.

The research also found further opportunities for creating green jobs across Britain, through seagrass planting, tree planting and wetlands restoration, and peatland restoration initiatives.
