Summary
On 30 March 2023 (so called ‘Energy Security Day’), the UK government published over 2,800 pages updating its 2021 Net Zero Strategy and energy security policy. This was a response to a successful legal challenge in the High Court, recommendations from the Climate Change Committee and the independent Mission Zero review.
Our net zero policy tracker has monitored the government’s progress towards the goals it set out in the Net Zero Strategy, using data made publicly available by the government.
Our analysis shows that despite the announcements made on 30 March 2023, the UK remains off track to meet its net zero climate commitment by 2050. Insufficient policy ambition and a lack of delivery across all sectors remains.
