Net zero policy tracker: March 2024 update

Download

Date:

19 March, 2024

Summary

As the window to take effective action on climate change closes, the next five year parliament will be crucial. Strong leadership is missing across the political spectrum, not just in ambition to act but in plans for rapid delivery of effective policy.

With wavering environmental leadership across major political parties, they all need to put forward credible plans on how they will get back on track for net zero.

Our Net zero policy tracker has monitored the government’s progress towards the goals it set out in the Net Zero Strategy. Our analysis shows that despite some recent progress, the UK remains off track to meet its net zero climate commitment by 2050. Ambition and delivery have been insufficient particularly noting policy roll backs for the heat and buildings and transport sectors.
