Why more local power on climate is needed

The role of local authorities


The UK political system is one of the most centralised in Europe. But there is now a chance for planned reforms to local government to empower community leaders and give them the capacity to address the climate crisis in a way that is appropriate to their local circumstances.

In collaboration with UK100, Green Alliance’s local climate emergency project worked with an advisory panel of six local authorities to develop recommendations for a new enabling framework for local authority decarbonisation.
